Fan from Mex (English version)

Journal Entry: Thu Feb 26, 2009, 1:00 PM
There is a strange and winding love-hate relationship between Mexican fans and pop culture because of the constant tension between anti-imperialist feelings and secret guilty pleasure for the american dream.

The first indication of achievement to the authors of images called "undeground or cult" that fascinate both adolescents and young adults belonging to certain Mexican intellectuals who, despite their comertial in certain cases, as works of art.

The woman is a key character in my photographs because of the large number of perceptions and personalities that can be reflected into icon and part of popular culture, with its re-charging our northern neighbor with which we have.
The idyllic beauty of women is represented by its characteristic dark, disillusioned and even sordid, denoting multiple scenarios where you can be victim or victimizer and yet never lose that special something that make them being admired.

From the glamorous beauty of the thirties when the woman was seen as something that the ethereal with the tattoos became a more mundane, there are a lot of shades in the situations in which it operates, where it may be against any adversity-even zombies with being beautiful and never miss the glamor, the victim herself vulnerable and beaten by his ego, to the eternal and alluring stereotype of college girl, which, in its apparent innocence is hiding dangers, he has the power to drive anyone to their whims.

My obsession with the U.S. cult film and consumption of it, led me to create all these characters, even beyond real life, creating a relationship between the fan and the movie similar to what I have with women and my idols ; on some fiction or narrative, making them my own, creating characters with which we end up in love with and making it my guilty pleasure.

I enjoy this very much.
Even translated it remains beautifully realistic.
I live in the states, but I am obsessed with the beauty and realism of Mexico's culture. I am facisnated with "popular" Mexican television, as it blends the horrors of American media with the grotesque mockeries of the American media in Mexico.

I love your art.
